Are You An Emotional Eater?

Have you ever been angry or upset one minute and then eating the next, not able to remember why you started eating?

If you answered yes, then you could be an emotional eater. A lot of women are emotional eaters. I know, because I am one too. This is one of the most common dieting obstacles we as women face.

Emotional eating can take over your life if you let it. If you are depressed, stressed or feeling low on self esteem, you might just open the pantry door looking for comfort. When you are eating high sugar, high carbohydrate food, your insulin level will jump, and the sugar will be stored as fat. This leads to more depression and stress. Emotional eating is a horrible cycle.

The first step to help you get a handle on emotional eating is to rid your kitchen of the high sugar, high carbohydrate pre packaged snack foods. Stock your fridge with healthy alternatives.

-Veggies like carrots, celery, cucumbers, salad

-Fruit

-Yogurt

-Hard boiled eggs

-Tuna, Chicken, Fish

Try to develop new skills for dealing with your emotions and stress. Take yourself away from your thoughts for a moment.

• call a friend

• go for a walk

• read a book

• write in your journal

• organize your pantry, closets, or photos.

Identify your specific need and take a new small step everyday to help you change your emotional eating forever. Don't worry if you have a hard time at first. This is very normal for women. Talk to your friends and build a support group. Emotional eating can be conquered. Just start taking your steps.
